Usage of Battery

Thank you very much for your trust in using our laptop accessories batteries. Please read the following carefully before using the battery, it shows you how to use and maintain the batteries properly. Battery is a consumable electronic product with limited life, but correct use, proper charging and discharging as well as good storage would significantly prolong the laptop battery life.

For the first charge please allow it be fully charged for 10 hours. 50% of charging capacity in windows may occur and shown no more charge in the first operation. Do not be suprised nothing is wrong with battery, after consecutive charge and discharge cycles; the indicator for battery's capacity under windows will increase gradually.

Calibrating your computer’s battery for best performance:

The battery inside has a PCB board that provides an estimate of the amount of energy in the battery as it charges and discharges. The battery needs to be recalibrated from time to time to keep the battery time and percent display under windows accurate. You should perform this procedure frequently.

  1. Make proper settings for “Power” option: click right key of your mouse in the blank screen, choose “Properties” “Screen Saver” “Power Schemes”“Portable”, and “When computer is” “Running on batteries”, tick “Never” for all options. Under “Alarm” option, don’t tick “Low battery alarm” and “Critical battery alarm” functions, and then choose “Apply” and “OK” to save the settings.
  2. Disconnect the AC adaptor and use your battery until power remains 5%.
  3. Plug the AC adaptor in and fully charge you computer’s battery to 100%. Upon initial use (or after prolonged storage period) the battery may require three to four charge/discharge cycles before achieving maximum performance. The charging process should last at least around 10 hours.

Caution: Never discharge the battery to completely flat, this would cause PCB of battery switch off the circuit and the battery will not be back in order again.

Tip: Run the battery without charging once a week to maintain it in a good working condition. At lease one cycle of charging and discharging should be done per month, otherwise it would cause failure to the battery permanently.

Battery Storage:

Batteries may be damaged if stored for prolonged periods with a closed circuit. If the battery will not be used for a month or longer, it is recommended that it be removed from the device, 60% ~ 80% charged and stored in a cool, dry and clean place. A charged battery will eventually lose its charge and be damaged if unused. It may therefore be necessary to recharge the battery after a certain storage period. Surely it would be great if you can use the battery once a month to ensure good storage status.

Battery Safety:

warning
  • Do not short-circuit. A short – circuit may cause severe damage to the battery.
  • Do not drop, hit or otherwise abuse the battery as this may result in the exposure of the cell contents, which are corrosive.
  • Do not expose the battery to heat sources moisture or rain.
  • Keep battery away from fire or other sources of extreme heat.
  • Do not incinerate. Exposure of battery to the extreme heat may result in an explosion.
  • Don’t try to disassemble, repair or change the battery pack which would cause over-heating or fire. Corrosive alkaline solutions or other electrolyte leakage would lead to fire or personal injury and death.
  • Don’t puncture the battery by sharp materials.

Q&A

Questions and Answers

Q: How long will the new main battery power the laptop?
A: Battery run-time on a laptop is difficult to determine. Actual battery run time depends upon the power demands made by the equipment. The use of the screen, the hard drive and other accessories result in an additional drain upon the battery, effectively reducing its run times. The total run-time of the battery is also dependent upon the design of the equipment.

Q: Why is the battery capacity lowered while left unused?
A: Due to influences of ambient humidity and non-absolute insulation environment, batteries have a phenomenon of self – consumption. Dependant upon the quality, the charge would decline around 1% every 3 – 4 days, so it is quite normal if the charge is not lowered in a major way!

Q: Should I remove the battery when using AC adaptor?
A: Usually laptop charging function starts charging when charge is less than 95%, and because natural consumption phenomenon exists, it does not make difference whether to take it off or keep it remain in laptop. But we suggest you keep it inside the laptop, because it could keep the ongoing operations continue and prevent data loss if AC power is abruptly interrupted. If you want to take the battery off, you are suggested putting it in wet and cool place and remember to cycle the battery at least once a month to keep it active.

Q: Will battery life decrease if I charge it when it is not fully discharged?
A: Battery life is calculated by full charge – discharge cycles, Li-ion battery usually has 300 ~ 400 cycle life. You don’t have to worry about the battery being calculated one more cycle when you just charged a little bit, averagely once more life cycle is only accumulated when you charge it to 80 ~ 90%.

Q: Battery capacity still shows 0% even after 20 hours of charging, and the laptop immediately shuts down when AC adaptor is unplugged, what is the problem?
A: The first thing you need to do is check the contact between the laptop and battery, because if the contact is not good, even the communication data between them is read, the battery cannot be charged. Since the laptop battery slot may become disfigured after long period of use while the battery plastic casing is designed according to new laptop specification, it would cause contact problems. Under such circumstances, please take off the battery and put it inside the laptop for several times to ensure better contact. When you hear a sound CLICK, it basically means the contact is good. Try more times and the contact problem can be solved, especially for IBM laptops. B:Battery is not compatible to the laptop. C:Battery is out of order.

Q: The battery is not discharging and laptop immediately shuts down after unplugging AC adaptor when the battery is charged to certain percentage or even 100%, why?
A: When such case takes place, please pay attention to your ambient temperature. If you are in somewhere with very high temperature, the battery will automatically protect itself after long time using, and the laptop startup program would stop working. At this moment, please restart your laptop after 1 hour. Another possibility is some problems took place with your laptop during charging process, because laptop charging circuit would easily to cause problems when taking charge. Please try your original battery on the laptop and see if it works. B:Battery is not compatible to the laptop. C:Battery is out of order.

Q: My Acer/Dell/HP/Sony laptop could not recognize the battery and showed “the battery is not compatible with this computer model, please put in a Acer/Dell/HP/Sony original battery”, and the indicator kept blinking, what’s wrong with it?

LAPTOP CARE

LCD SCREEN CARE (LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY)

LCD of a Laptop is made of glass which is one of the most fragile and expensive components. All parts related to screen can be damaged due to ageing which makes the LCD screen one of the most easily malfunctioned parts in laptop.

PROBLEM

Colour Deviation
Heavy usage of the screen will cause colour deviation and image dimmed on the display, areas near the backlight turn red. Instability of power supply might also occur on the Inverter of LCD, which directly affects the quality of screen display.

Dead Pixel and Stuck Pixel
A “dead pixel” is a defective pixel that remains unlit. Dead pixels are usually best seen against a white background. A “stuck pixel” will usually be most visible against a black background, where it will appear red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, or yellow, although stuck red, green, or blue pixels are most common. A stuck pixel results from a manufacturing defect, which leaves one or more of these sub-pixels permanently turned on or off. It often appears on ageing or bad quality LCD. Be aware that images can be "burned" into an LCD Screen if left displayed for an extended or considerable period of time without turning off or using screensaver, which causes “DEAD PIXEL” or “STUCK PIXEL”.

Screen Damage
LCDs are easily damaged by lots of man-made factors. Cracking on LCD Screen would cause pixels display abnormally, which is mostly caused by serious impact or over-pressing on the screen. LCD is a delicate device which needs to be handled with care.

CAUTION

Pressure on LCD
Never place anything heavy on back of LCD and never press too hard on LCD, which can permanently damage the pixels in that area as the surface is not made to be touched.

Extreme Temperatures
Never expose your LCD monitors directly in the sun, heat will damage your LCD monitor. Always keep the LCD monitor in a cool and well ventilated area. Also never use the LCD monitor in snow or sub-zero temperatures. It can cause permanent damage to the pixels.

CLEANING

Make sure laptop is switched off with battery removed and AC adaptor unplugged before cleaning. Never use alcohol, detergents or even mild soap for cleaning and do not spray or pour any liquid directly onto the screen. Use a soft cloth that is non-abrasive, 100% cotton, soft lint-free, microfiber or lens wipes, damp with a little distilled water and gently wipe the screen, it would be more effective if add a little of vinegar. Laptop Accessories will soon sell this LCD cleaning kit.

SELF-CHECKING

It would be a bit difficult to see a tiny “DEAD PIXEL” and “STUCK PIXEL” on the screen with naked eye, by using the software “DPT 2.30C” will help you find them. It performs a series of tests in black, white, red, green, yellow, blue and grey up to 16 colours, that user will easily be able to identify any “DEAD PIXEL” and “STUCK PIXELT” on the screen.

When the “DEAD PIXEL” or “STUCK PIXEL” is found, user can try to restore by using JSCREENFIX online service. It basically performs a series of rapid and repeat resonance actions to stimulate and try to recover from “DEAD PIXEL” or “STUCK PIXEL”. Although there’s no guarantee of recovery but worth to try it for free!

HARD DRIVE CARE

Hard Drive seems tough and firm, the disc inside the hard drive is extremely fragile and easily damaged by physical impact especially while system is still operating. Suspend, hibernate, or shut down the computer completely before remove the hard drive.

PROBLEM

Unusual Noise
Natural wearing of a disc causes irregular rpm, readable head or magnetic head deformed, or making scratches on the surface of disc.

Unrecognized
Ageing of a PCB or moisture on the PCB of hard drive causes damage to the integrated circuit (IC) board, which would obstruct the current flow.

When a hard drive cannot be detected by the laptop or incurring a data loss, user should submit in for repair. Technicians usually use data recovery software and try to recover the data from hard drive. If the situation is more critical, the hard drive will be sent into non-dust laboratory and they would use machine to read data directly from hard drive. After the data is successfully captured from the damaged hard drive user should rather replace a new one into the laptop ASAP.

SELF CHECKING

Use “HDD regenerator” to check the condition of a hard drive. It not only checks the physical damage but also tries to repair the surface of the disc which regenerates the bad sector. It also prevents data loss in hard drive during time of restoration.

BATTERY CARE

Li-ion cells rechargeable battery has a limited lifetime. If you always get a low battery warning or unable to 100% fully charge the battery, apparently battery might be damaged. Improper usage would cause this problem to appear more easily.

PROBLEM

Reduced Time Usage
The battery pack could be reaching its end of lifetime after it was re-charged about 350 to 700 times or remained in charging condition for a long time.

Unable to Charge Normally
PCB inside of battery is not functioning, unable to send signal commanding battery to be charged normally.
Before processing for repair, technicians must firstly examine and determine the problem, and decide whether to replace the cells or PCB and charge accordingly. Beside user still needs to buy a new battery if the damaged one cannot be fixed.

CAUTION

If user mostly uses the ac power then please remove battery pack while charging with ac adaptor, to avoid shorten the battery life. Do not leave the charged battery dormant for long period of time, even if you use AC power at most of the time, still use the battery periodically to keep it in working condition. User should charge battery once a month, about 2 to 4 hours every time while system is off. Unplug AC adaptor when the computer is not in use to prevent over-charging. If you don't plan on using the battery for a month or more, we recommend storing it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects.

Keep battery away from fire or other sources of extreme heat. Do not incinerate. Exposure of battery to extreme heat may result in an explosion. Do not short-circuit. A short-circuit may cause severe damage to the battery. Do not drop, hit or otherwise abuse the battery as this may result in the exposure of the cell contents, which are corrosive.

You must avoid setting your laptop battery charger in the following place:

  1. The place with very high humidity and high temperature
  2. Strong vibrative place
  3. Dusty place

MOTHERBOARD CARE

Design of a motherboard adopted by Laptop is extremely delicate, but would be easily malfunctioned by heat and impact. Lightly it will affect system stability, seriously it will cause start failure to a laptop.

Repairing motherboard of a laptop is a very complicate process, both cost and time-consuming. Technicians usually use specialized machinery for welding the chip, replace the damaged chip, conductor or PCB. If the motherboard cannot be repaired with problems like fractured, burnt or melted, the complete motherboard has to be replaced. Plugging the ac power, check the light of charging. If it’s on the motherboard might still be repairable, and vice versa.

PROBLEM

Computer System Turns on Blue Screen, Suddenly Restart, or Remain Inactive after Switch On Over-heating or moisturizing would cause motherboard to be oxidized, or perhaps few chips are malfunctioning.

SELF CHECKING

To monitor the operation of laptop, user may try “SPEEDFAN 4.37” the system monitoring software. It not only displays the actual temperature of CPU, VGA graphic GPU, hard drive and motherboard in operation, but also captures the detailed information on rotation rate of a fan and voltage etc. It let user know in advance whether the laptop is over-heated or any other symptoms of error in early stage.

KEYBOARD CARE

Keypad on the laptop is used frequently and daily for data input, beside it is more fragile compare to the keyboard of a desktop, therefore it is highly wear and tear and easily gets problems.

PROBLEM

Keypad Malfunctioning or Coming Off
Circuit board underneath the keypad is touched with dust or water, which obstructs the electric current. Typing too hard or any other man-made factors would cause keys falling off.

As we cannot only maintain a single key, therefore no matter damage is on one key or the complete unit, the whole keyboard should be replaced. Same apply to the keyboard with function of TrackPoint.

CAUTION

Food and drinks pose great risk to your laptop. Do not eat over your laptop. Crumbs dropping into the keyboard area of the laptop can cause malfunctions. If water is accidentally poured onto the keyboard, user should immediately switch off laptop, remove battery and unplug ac power. Use dry cloth or tissue to absorb water on the surface of keyboard, and then send to professional technician straight away. Remember not to use hair dryer to blow the keyboard or body of laptop, this would cause plastic keyboard permanently heated and damaged.

CLEANING

Cleaning will restore the keyboard to new or better performance. Laptop keyboards don’t wear out, but foul out. There are several reasons why the keys will start to stick, spilled drinks, normal wearing off of the factory lubrication, weakening of the rubber pieces which give each key its snap action, and contamination by dust and hair. Keyboard and body of laptop has many gaps scattering heat out, those gaps would accumulate dust and limit the efficiency of heat scattered which cause system instability. In order to prevent this situation happen, user should occasionally clean up the surface of keyboard as well as gaps that heat flow out by using air cleaner or something that can blow away the dust. Proper cleaning and lubrication will completely solve these problems and return the keyboard to perfect operation.

SELF CHECKING

When problem is found on the keypad, try to use “PASSMARK Keyboard Test” to inspect. Users just press one key at a time, the green light will be shown at the correspondent key on the virtual keypad displayed in the software interface.
